Pride in Carlisle 2016

21/11/2016

Cumbria Pride 2016Carlisle City Centre hosted Cumbria Pride in September and the CPS was there to join in the celebrations.  For the LGBT community the event is an essential day in the calendar.

Visitors to the CPS information stand, including some Saturday shoppers, wondered why the CPS was there. CPS colleagues, Elizabeth Turner and David Leighton, were able to enlighten them that dealing with hate crimes is a big part of the work the CPS does to keep communities safe. CPS Cumbria dealt with 19 prosecutions for LGBT hate crime in 2015/16 gaining a successful outcome in all but one case.

The information stand also received the ultimate seal of approval with a visit from her Majesty the Queen - well she said she was!
