Mega Mela 2016

The Mega Mela is a two day event which takes place every summer, the largest celebration of South Asian Culture in the North of England.

Mega Mela 2016The event is enjoyed by people from all cultures and religions, approximately 70% of whom are from the South Asian community. This year over 70,000 attended.

Robina Ahmed, Jinny Sehra, Tina Cunnane, Diane Leech, Ali Sarwar and David Leighton ran the CPS information stand and had hundreds of visitors over the two days. It is an ideal way for the CPS to engage directly with the South Asian community to hear about their experiences and concerns.

Racist and religious hate crime is the largest of the hate crime strands that the CPS deals with and raising confidence amongst communities that it is being prosecuted effectively is vitally important. Questions to the CPS ranged from modern day slavery and incitement to concerns about BREXIT and Islamaphobia.

A number of officials also visited the stand including the Mayor of Manchester.
