Two Men Sentenced For Brutal Attack In Colne
11/01/2013
Two men have been sentenced at Burnley Crown Court for a violent attack which left their victim with serious, life changing injuries.
Callum Shepherd and Joshua Barrett, both from Nelson, Lancashire, attacked their victim in Colne on 30 June after meeting him at a party for the first time earlier on in the evening.
Joshua Barrett pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm and theft and was sentenced to 32 months imprisonment. Callum Shepherd pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
Richard Mitcalf, District Crown Prosecutor from CPS North West said:
"This was a brutal and unprovoked attack in which the victim was left with extremely serious head injuries which have had a devastating impact on his life.
"The pair launched a violent attack on their victim, whom they had only just met hours before and he had no chance to defend himself. Thankfully there were witnesses to the assault who acted quickly to help the victim and called the police immediately so that he was able to receive urgent medical attention. Their evidence helped us to build a strong case against his attackers."
