Two jailed for Bacup killing
11/11/2011
Two men have been jailed after pleading guilty during their trial in October to the kidnap and manslaughter of Paul Brady in Bacup in August 2009. His body was never found. Daniel Jones and Michael Dunphy were sentenced to 10 years and 11 years respectively.
A gang of men armed with metal bars, baseball bats and a shotgun attacked Paul Brady and bundled him into a van after he had been lured to a housing development where he was he site manager. He was not seen again and his body has never been found. In March, Paul Devalda was found guilty of his murder and sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 21 years.
Michael Dunphy was interviewed in connection with Paul Brady's disappearance and later released on police bail but failed to answer his bail. He was arrested in April after being stopped by police whilst driving a car in Greater Manchester. Daniel Jones fled to Spain shortly after Mr Brady's disappearance and was extradited back to the UK last December.
John Dilworth, Head of the CPS North West Complex Case Unit, said: "The CPS and police have been determined to bring to justice all those responsible for the death of Paul Brady. Both of these men went to great lengths to evade capture and I'm pleased that our persistence and hard work has resulted in them finally facing the consequences for their part in this brutal crime. The message these sentences send out is clear. We will pursue criminals no matter where they try to hide and bring them before the courts to answer for their crimes."
