02/06/2016

15 members of a Preston based drugs gang have today been sentenced to a total of almost 90 years imprisonment at Preston Crown Court for conspiracy to supply £1.2M worth of heroin and crack cocaine between 2014 and 2015.

Brett Gerrity, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West said: "Today this organised crime gang have been taken off the streets of Preston for a significant length of time.

"This was a well organised criminal enterprise with clear levels of command. Over a 12 month period they operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week supplying massive quantities of crack cocaine and heroin onto the streets of Preston.

"The misery inflicted upon the local community from not just those addicted to class A drugs, but the gangs that supply them is well documented. The gang were observed by police during covert surveillance energetically supplying heroin and crack cocaine.  The gangdrummed up business by advertising their products on group text messages to their customer base of addicts.

"The leader of the gang was Anthony Watkins, who organised delivery of the drugs into the Preston area and managed the main dealing phone.  Michael Dineley supplied them with the crack cocaine from Liverpool, whilst the others played their individual roles in transportation, advertising and supplying the drugs on a street level.

"The Crown Prosecution Service has worked together with the police to successfully dismantle this gang and will continue to work in partnership with them to bring to justice those who seek to make a living from organised crime and who hide behind the fear created in the local community to continue to conduct their illegal activities."
