A 57 year old man has today been sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court to 8 months imprisonment for abducting a 15 year old girl and possessing and taking indecent images of a child. He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Gary Baum pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to child abduction on 9th December 2015, making indecent images of a child between 1st July 2015 and 16th December 2015 and taking indecent images of a child on 13th September 2015.

Rebecca McGregor, Crown Advocate for North West CPS said: "Today Gary Baum begins a prison sentence for abducting a young girl and taking and possessing indecent images of children.

"As a school teacher, he was in a position of trust within the community and would have been well aware that his actions were wholly unacceptable.

"Young people should be able to look up to adults as future role models.  Such offences can have a long lasting impact on their lives, not only at the time but well into their adult lives.

"The Crown Prosecution Service are dedicated to safeguarding children and young people and will continue to work closely with the police and other agencies to bring before the courts anyone who seeks to take advantage or abuse them in anyway."
