20/07/2016

Daniel Sobisz has today been sentenced at Preston Crown Court to 13 years imprisonment for the manslaughter of 31 year old Marcin Pawlow at a flat on Central Drive, Blackpool on 23rd December 2015.

Marcin Pawlow who lived and worked in Doncaster was visiting friends for the Christmas holidays when he was stabbed with a kitchen knife by Daniel Sobisz.

Julie Reilly, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West Said: "This is a tragic case involving the death of Marcin Pawlow who had been invited to Blackpool by his friend so that he would not be alone over the festive season. He had been in the area just four hours when was stabbed numerous times by Daniel Sobisz.

"The group of friends and acquaintances were drinking together at the flat when an argument broke out. Marcin Pawlow left the flat but returned a short time later when a scuffle occurred with one of the other men at the door to the flat. Sobisz who was armed with a kitchen knife from the flat stabbed Mr Pawlow to the back, chest and thigh causing fatal injuries.

"Sobisz returned to the flat, discarded the knife, took his coat, and went to various friends' houses in order to continue drinking. He then went on the run for almost a month after arranging for someone to drive him to Birmingham that night. Police tracked him down in Leicester in January where he was arrested and transported back to Lancashire to face the charge against him.

"After initially denying any involvement in this vicious attack, he eventually admitted responsibility for manslaughter.

"Today as Daniel Sobisz begins this sentence he must face up to the consequences of his violent actions. I would like to offer the family and friends of Marcin Pawlow my sincere condolences, our thoughts are very much with them at this time.

"The Crown Prosecution Service and the police are dedicated to tackling violence and knife crime and will continue to work closely together to bring those who commit such offences before the courts."
