Area Business Manager - Ian Brown.

Ian joined the CPS in August 2008 as Senior Area Business Manager, in CPS Northumbria becoming Area Business Manager for the North East following CPS restructure. His skills and knowledge have been attained from many years experience at Senior Management level primarily focusing on business and process management.

He is responsible for the business functions of the Area, monitoring performance and overseeing staff management. Working alongside Chief Crown Prosecutor Wendy Williams, his role is to ensure the appropriate resources are in place for the CPS to operate effectively.

Head of Complex Casework Unit (CCU) and (POCA) Unit - Kingsley Hyland

Kingsley was admitted as a solicitor in 1981 and has been a lawyer with the CPS since 1986. As Head of the North East CCU Kingsley has overall responsibility for all complex crime cases in the North East and has personally dealt with many high profile cases.

Kingsley also leads the POCA Unit, which uses the Proceeds Of Crime Act (2002) to recover money from those convicted of criminal activity.In 2001 Kingsley was awarded the OBE for services to the CPS.

Senior District Crown Prosecutor, Magistrates Court Unit - Kerrie Bell

Kerrie was called to the Bar in July 1986.  She joined the CPS in London at the end of 1988 and worked there until 2000 when she joined CPS Kent on detached duty as an Acting Senior District Crown Prosecutor. Kerrie joined CPS Northumbria in 2001 as the Senior District Crown Prosecutor in the Trials Unit.

Kerrie is currently responsible for the Magistrates Court Unit work across the North East. In addition, she is the Senior Management Team lead on IT and is a member of the Seamless CJS Admin project Operations Board.

Senior District Crown Prosecutor, Crown Court Unit - Gerry Sydenham

Gerry joined the CPS in 1986 and became a Crown Prosecutor working in Newcastle for four years. He was promoted to Senior Crown Prosecutor then to Principal Crown Prosecutor in 1990 working in the Northumberland Branch office based at Cramlington.

In 1994, he returned to Newcastle promoted to Prosecution Team leader for Gateshead and then the Newcastle Teams. Six years later, he became Criminal Justice Unit Head North and in 2004, Trial Unit Head, before becoming Crown Court Unit Head for CPS North East, where he is responsible for all aspects of Crown Court Casework.
