Peter Chapman admits murder of Ashleigh Hall

Peter Chapman has today pleaded guilty to the kidnap, rape and murder of 17 year Ashleigh Hall.

He made his admissions on the opening day of his trial at Teesside Crown Court.

Ashleigh was befriended by 33 year old Chapman on a social networking website. He posed as a teenage boy, persuading her to meet him. In October last year, her body was found dumped on farmland near Sedgefield.

Chris Enzor, Durham Chief Crown Prosecutor said: " This was a tragic and horrific case. Chapman was a sexual and violent predator, using a fictitious identity to befriend Ashleigh on the internet. She was looking for friendship, his intentions were far more sinister.

"I must pay tribute to Ashleigh's family at this incredibly difficult time, and to the prosecution team who've ensured Chapman has been brought to justice for violently killing a young woman who had so much to live for."
