No Witness, No Justice

This is the title of a major national project to improve the care and support given to victims and witnesses by the Criminal Justice System.

Our Criminal Justice System relies heavily on witnesses coming to court and giving evidence so it is crucial that people are given the right support to enable them to support the prosecution process by being prepared to come to court and give evidence.

Witness Care Unit

A joint CPS and police Witness Care Unit will be established in Northamptonshire by March 2005, to be the single point of contact for victims and witnesses who have given a statement to the police as part of an investigation that has resulted in a criminal charge being brought.

When it is established, the Unit will proactively contact victims and witnesses to keep them informed of the progress of their case and provide support throughout the criminal justice process.
