Victims and Witnesses
At the heart of the Criminal Justice System
The Criminal Justice System relies heavily on witnesses giving evidence in court. The victim of the crime may also be a witness.
We work closely with criminal justice agencies, such as the police and courts, and other agencies, including Victim Support and the Witness Service, in order to meet the different and diverse needs of victims and witnesses of crime in Northamptonshire.

The Victim's Charter
If you are the Victim of a crime you can expect:
- The crime you have reported to be investigated and to receive information about what happens;
- The chance to explain how the crime has affected you, and your interests to be taken into account; and
- To be treated with respect and sensitivity; to be offered emotional and practical support; if you have to go to court as a witness.
This is summary of the Victim's Charter which sets out the service that victims can expect from the CPS, police, courts, Witness Service and other agencies.
The Charter also tells victims how to proceed if they are not satisfied with any aspect of the way in which the CPS or any of the other agencies has dealt with their case.
