Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel launched by CPS Northamptonshire

30/11/2007

Chief Crown Prosecutor, Grace Ononiwu, has commissioned a Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel.

The inaugural meeting of the newly commissioned Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel will be held on 29th January 2008.

The Panel will consist of members of key community groups. LGBT, BME, REC and Disabled Groups have all agreed to provide a Panel Member. It will be an independent Panel which will independently select and then examine specific Hate Crime cases that CPS Northamptonshire have dealt with.

It will raise awareness of how CPS Northamptonshire handles hate crime cases, it will build an appreciation with communities of both the limitations with which the CPS operates and the opportunities to enhance the CPS response to hate crimes and it will help to raise public confidence in the Criminal Justice System.
