Seventh man charged following terror arrests in Birmingham

The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised West Midlands Police to charge a seventh man in relation to a recent counter terrorism operation in Birmingham that led to the arrests and the charges of six men on Sunday 25 September.

Deborah Walsh, Deputy Head for the Crown Prosecution Service Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division said: "I have today authorised West Midlands Police to charge Mujahid Hussain, 20, with entering into a funding arrangement for the purposes of terrorism, contrary to Section 17 of the Terrorism Act 2000, and failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism, contrary to Section 38B (1) (a) and (2) of the Terrorism Act 2000. Mujahid Hussain is the seventh person charged in relation to a recent counter terrorism operation in the city. Six other men have already appeared in court and have been remanded until October."

Mujahid Hussain will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow.

CHARGE No.1: ENTERING INTO A FUNDING ARRANGEMENT FOR THE PURPOSES OF TERRORISM, contrary to Section 17 of the Terrorism Act 2000. MUJAHID HUSSAIN, before the 19th September 2011, entered into or became concerned in an arrangement as a result of which money or other property was to be made available to another, knowing or having reasonable cause to suspect that it would or might be used for the purposes of terrorism.

CHARGE No.2: INFORMATION ABOUT ACTS OF TERRORISM, contrary to Section 38B (1) (a) and (2) of the Terrorism Act 2000. MUJAHID HUSSAIN, between the 29th July 2011 and the 19th September 2011, had information which he knew or believed might be of material assistance in securing the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of another person, in the United Kingdom, for an offence involving the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism and did not disclose the information as soon as reasonably practicable.
