CPS statement following conviction of Office of Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis
01/11/2007
This was a serious allegation of an offence under legislation enacted by Parliament specifically to protect the public. It followed a thorough investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
During legal argument at an early stage in the case, the trial judge ruled that the Crown’s decision to prosecute “cannot be impugned”.
The jury have now made their decision. Again, we would like to extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Jean Charles de Menezes.
