Homeowners and self-defence: DPP issues correction

09/12/2004

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Ken Macdonald QC, has issued the following statement in relation to an error in the article on page 1 of today's Daily Telegraph:

"One of the quotes attributed to me in this article misses the vital word "not" and therefore conveys a message which is the opposite to what I actually said.

"I said that chasing an intruder down the street, for example, and stabbing him could NOT fall into the category of self-defence.

"The Telegraph has acknowledged that this is an error on their part. I would be grateful if all media could note this correction and ensure that a note to this effect is made on their files."
