Decision to Charge

Once the Police have completed their investigations, they will refer the case to the Crown Prosecution Service for advice on how to proceed. We will then make a decision on whether a suspect should be charged, and what that charge should be.

CPS gives seven days notice in Jean Charles De Menezes case

The CPS has today given seven days notice to all relevant parties, including the family of Jean Charles de Menezes, of its intention to give the decision in this case on 17 July 2006.

  1. CPS received the IPCC file on 19 January 2006.
  2. Relevant parties are solicitors acting for the de Menezes family, solicitors acting for the Metropolitan Police officers involved, the IPCC, Brazilian government officials and the Coroner's Office.
  3. Seven day notification was by email.
  4. Relevant parties will be notified of our decision by private letter via email.
  5. A public statement will follow shortly after concerned parties have been notified of our decision.
  6. We will not be discussing any aspect of this case over the next seven days.
