"The District Judge said that the case of Ray Gosling was one of the worst cases of wasting police time that he had ever seen.
"This was an extremely thorough police investigation. Over 1,800 hours and £45,000 were spent.
"It was important that this was reflected in the decision to prosecute, and that decision was justified by the guilty plea and the sentence that was passed.
"By his guilty plea Mr Gosling has accepted his responsibility for the actions in making that broadcast in February 2010."
