CPS Law Scholarship scheme to be launched
Released: 24/06/03
The Solicitor General Harriet Harman will formally launch The CPS Law Scholarship on 24 June 2003.
The scheme will provide financial support to staff who are at various qualifying stages of their legal careers, from A-Level through to professional qualifications and legal training contract.
Among those attending the launch will be three CPS legal scholars who will speak about the support they received while training.
Angela Rowan, a Designated Caseworker from CPS Merseyside, Angela Hallam, a legal trainee from CPS West Midlands, and Jim Hope, a crown prosecutor from CPS Northumbria, will tell how they qualified with the help of some kind of sponsorship and outline their career paths.
The launch, which will be covered by the media, will take place at Portcullis House, Westminster, London.
It will be followed in the evening by a party at 11 Downing Street, which will be attended by the Director, CCPs, HQ directors and staff involved in setting up the scheme. Other guests are expected to include Ministers, MPs, and representatives from the Law Society, the Bar Council and ILEX.
Further details of The CPS Law Scholarship scheme can be found on the training site as a staff Information and Application brochure. This can be downloaded locally. A Word version of the application form is being prepared, this will be available soon.
In addition to the central funding for the scheme, CPS London is making funds available to extend the Area’s own sponsorship programme. Applications will be considered from staff wishing to study A-Levels (or equivalent), ILEX Levels 3 and 4, Law Degrees, Common Practice Examination or Post-Graduate Diploma in Law, Legal Practice Course/Bar Vocational Course and the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (London only).
