Statement on conviction of three men for murder of Ben Kinsella.

11/06/2009

Jade Braithwaite (20), Michael Alleyne (18) and Juress Kika (19) were today convicted of the murder of schoolboy Ben Kinsella following a seven week trial at the Central Criminal Court.

Aisling Hosein, reviewing lawyer from the CPS London Homicide Team, said:

"Ben Kinsella was 16 when he was the innocent victim of an unprovoked knife attack. On the night he died he was celebrating the end of his exams with a group of school friends. Ben was not armed, nor involved in any confrontation. He did not know his attackers, but despite this Michael Alleyne, Jade Braithwaite and Juress Kika subjected him to a violent attack in which he sustained 11 stab wounds.

"The Crown Prosecution Service would like to thank the witnesses, many of them young people, friends of Ben, who came forward to give evidence. We would also like to pass our sincere condolences to the Kinsella family.  We hope the verdict provides some measure of comfort for them."
