Bus driver charged following fatal crash in Coventry

24/07/2017

A CPS spokesperson said: "Today (24 July), the CPS has authorised West Midlands Police to bring charges in relation to a fatal collision involving a bus in Coventry on 3 October 2015.

"Bus driver Kailash Chander, 79, has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

"Mr Chander's employer, Midland Red (South) Limited, has been charged with two offences under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

"Mr Chander and Midland Red (South) Limited will appear at Coventry Magistrates' Court on September 7 in relation to these charges.

"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings are now live and the defendants have a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice ongoing proceedings."
