Transcript of Keir Starmer and Dolores Barrett interviews
We asked Keir Starmer why it was important for him to attend the NBCPA conference?
"It is very important for me to be here to support the association today. They are inspirational; they are inspirational for our staff and also externally many, many members of the community know about the association. I feel proud to be here today, to be associated with them to hear what they have to say, meet and discuss some really important issues."

Why is it important to have a staff network like the NBCPA within the CPS?
"I think any organisation that really values its staff and its staff contributions will want to encourage staff networks. The association is one of the most powerful staff networks, it's done really good work. This is the way we ought to engage with our staff."

The theme of the conference today is 'Reducing the fear of crime', how do you think the CPS can contribute to this?
"Well reducing the fear of crime is absolutely critical, it's all about confidence; the confidence of people to go about their ordinary lives in the way that they want to, to come forward if they are unfortunate enough to be subjected to criminal behaviour. We have to give people confidence; confidence to come forward, confidence that they will be treated properly, supported properly in the criminal justice system. We need to be clear, we need to be transparent, but we have a real duty here".

Dolores Barrett is the current chairman of the National Black Crown Prosecutors Association. We asked her, what is the role of the NBCPA?
"The NBCPA has been in existence since 2001. In recent years the NBCPA has focussed on driving the equality and diversity agenda forward in order to assist the Crown Prosecution Service to be more reflective of the communities that we serve."
