Three more people charged following police officer death


Three more people have been charged in connection with the death of Merseyside Police Officer, Dave Phillips.

PC Phillips, a father-of-two, died after he tried to stop a stolen red Mitsubishi pick-up following a burglary at an estate agents in Birkenhead, Merseyside on October 5.

Georgia Clarke, 19, of Knowsley Road, Wallasey, Dawn Cooper, 34, of Wheatland Lane, Wallasey and Michael Smith, 19, of Widmore Road, Gateacre, appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court  on Friday, 16 October, charged with assisting an offender.

They are accused of burning and attempting to dispose of the clothing of a murder suspect at a house in Wheatland Lane in Wallasey on 5 October 2015. No pleas were entered and all three were refused bail.

Clayton Williams, 18, of Wheatland Lane, Wallasey, is accused of murdering PC Phillips, attempting to cause another police officer at the scene at the time grievous bodily harm with intent, aggravated theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.

A second man, Phillip Stuart, 30, of Mayfair Court, Oxton, has been charged with burglary and aggravated taking of a vehicle.

All five defendants will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court on October 22, 2015.
