R v Kenneth Ledsham

CPS statement following the case of Kenneth Ledsham, who was acquitted of the murder of Anthony Cooper.

Mairead Neeson, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS Mersey-Cheshire, said:
"Proceedings were only started after careful consideration of all the evidence gathered during the investigation into the tragic death of Anthony Cooper.
"We were satisfied that there was sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction on a charge of murder against Kenneth Ledsham.
"The fact that the trial ran its full course confirms that the evidence in this case was judged fit to be put before a jury.
"The jury, having heard from both the prosecution and defence, reached a verdict of not guilty. We are grateful to the jury for their consideration of the evidence during this trial and we respect their decision."
