Convictions in child cruelty case
A couple who subjected three young children to years of abuse have been convicted at Warrington Crown Court.
Peter Hussey, Crown Advocate, who prosecuted the case to its conclusion said: "As parents, the defendants were in a privileged position of responsibility and trust. They abused that position terribly and repeatedly inflicted physical punishments on three young children over a number of years."
Both defendants, who can't be named for legal reasons, originally pleaded not guilty, but the father changed his plea and admitted 10 offences - including child cruelty and assault.
The mother pleaded not guilty and following a trial was convicted by a jury of nine offences.
