Drunk driver jailed after police chase

A speeding drink driver who crashed into a bridge during a police chase has been jailed for six months.

Gareth Davies, aged 19, from Runcorn, was sentenced at Warrington Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicle taking.
After smoking cannabis he stole his girlfriends sisters car on September 17 2012. He then drove at speeds of 80mph in the 30mph zone on Sankey Way.
Benjamin Jones, prosecuting, described how he was chased by officers from Cheshire Police just before midnight.
Ignoring workmen and temporary lights on Battersby Lane, Davies tried to evade capture before crashing into the bridge at 45mph.  He is relieved not to be facing more serious charges, said Mr Jones.
