CPS statement: case involving Maghull shooting

Helen Morris, Crown Advocate from CPS Mersey-Cheshire, said: "On Thursday 14th November 2012 at around 4pm in Hall Lane, Maghull, Liverpool, a 19 year-old man was shot

"Two males, one a youth, were subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder. Merseyside Police carried out a thorough investigation, including submitting witness statements and numerous items seized for forensic examination. When the evidence was submitted to the CPS for review it was apparent that, due to witness issues, there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction against either suspect and therefore I made the decision to stop the case.

"CPS Mersey-Cheshire, working closely with Merseyside Police, is committed to bringing to justice those who use lethal weapons on our streets. Members of the public are urged to come forward with information to assist in this endeavour."
