Career criminal convicted

22/06/2012

A man described as a 'prolific offender' has been jailed for eight-and-a-half-years.

Lee Evans, 38, robbed a pensioner outside her Birkenhead home as she unpacked her car. He punched her in the face repeatedly, breaking the womans jaw before stealing her handbag.

He was also caught on CCTV burgling a nursing home a few days earlier.

Evans targeted the 73-year-old woman, on December 7 2011 when she was getting something out of her car. He originally denied any involvement in the mugging and claimed he had bought the phone off a stranger.

The prosecution also told that court that on December 3, Evans walked into a nearby nursing home in Reservoir Road having tried several locked doors.  Once inside he was caught on CCTV going into both the laundry room and staff room before helping himself to a purse inside a handbag left on a chair.

He was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court.
