Two men sentenced for the murder of Neill Buchel

15/04/2015

Elvis Kwiatkowski and Chas Quye were sentenced today for the murder of Neill Buchel, 39, on 13 March 2014. The men were sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 21 years at Blackfriars Crown Court. They were also sentenced for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice along with Scott Hunt, Bradley Andison and Alan Quinn.

Tim Thompson, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, said: "On the 1st April 2014 the body of Neill Buchel was found by a young fisherman in Dagenham. Mr Buchel had been beaten and his body dismembered before being thrown into a lake.

"Mr Buchel knew the defendants as friends and they would all take part in what they called 'pranks' but which were in fact seriously violent behaviour.

"On the night of his murder Mr Buchel was defenceless through drink. He was attacked by two of the men who claimed to be his friends with a level of violence which the jury have accepted showed a clear intention to murder. The other defendants then helped Kwiatkowski and Quye by helping them dispose of the body and by misleading the police.

"I hope that the sentences today can bring some small comfort to the friends and family of Mr Buchel, our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
