Three sentenced for Newham teenager murder
27/07/2012
Three teenagers have been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of the killing of a 16 year old boy in a residential street in Newham in 2010.
19 year old Jerelle Wilson-Moonie, 17 year old Jeffrey Lartey and 17 year old Virally Okokono were found guilty of one count of murder following a trial which began on 18 June 2012 at the Central Criminal Court. They have each been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years.
16 year old Ailton Campos De Oliveira was set upon by a group of approximately 12 15 youths at just after 1am on Sunday 4 July 2010 in Denbigh Road, Newham. He was kicked, stamped on, hit with a baseball bat and stabbed a total of ten times. A stab wound to his chest proved fatal and he died two days later in hospital.
CPS London lawyer Gary Dolby said:
"This was a tit for tat murder in revenge for the death of another teenager eighteen months before a murder which Ailton had played no part in.
"He was set upon by the group late at night with no way to escape or defend himself.
"Gang crime will not be tolerated and the Crown Prosecution Service is working hard with the Metropolitan Police Service to tackle it.
"I hope that the sentencing passed brings some comfort to Ailtons family at this very difficult time."
