Three men convicted for attack on Kingston Mosque
02/04/2012
Three men were convicted on Friday (31 March 2012) at Kingston Crown Court of offences related to an attack on Kingston Mosque in November 2010.
19 year old Alfie Wallace and 23 year old Martin Pottle were convicted of one count of violent disorder and one count of religiously aggravated criminal damage. 21 year old David Morris was convicted of one count of religiously aggravated criminal damage.
Head of Kingston CPS Anuradha Boodia said:
"There is no place for this sort of offence in a civilised society and as demonstrated by this robust prosecution the Crown Prosecution Service will work hard to bring perpetrators to justice.
"This attack affected not just those within the Mosque at the time but all of those who use the Mosque as a place of worship.
"Religiously aggravated crimes such as this where victims are targeted solely because of their beliefs are particularly serious and when there is sufficient evidence the Crown Prosecution Service will always seek a prosecution."
Wallace, Morris and Pottle will be sentenced on 27 April 2012.
Six men were found not guilty of all charges.
