Steven Woods sentenced for robbery of 84-year-old man

Steven Woods, 19, was sentenced today for his part in the robbery of an 84 year-old-man in his West London home last year. He received a sentence of three years and four months in a young offenders institution for robbery at Southwark Crown Court.

Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, Baljit Ubhey said: "This was an extremely distressing robbery of a vulnerable man in his own home.

"The victim, 84, had been at his home on the evening of 10 September 2014 when he heard a knock at his door and asked who it was. He could not hear the mumbled reply  so he opened the door to see who was there. Steven Woods and another man stormed into his home. The victim was then pinned against the wall and one of the two men put their hand on his mouth so he was unable to call for help. His watch was then taken from his wrist before the men fled.

"Everyone is entitled to feel safe in their home, and this right was completely violated by the callous actions of this defendant.

"At CPS London we are committed to working with our policing partners to make the capital a safer place."
