Senior CPS London manager 'proud of OBE honour'

Jean Ashton, Senior Area Business Manager for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in London, was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on 6th December. She received the honour for services to the CPS. 

Jean has worked for the CPS since it began operating in 1986, transferring over from the West Yorkshire County Prosecuting Solicitors' Department. She moved to the service in London in October 2009 and is responsible, with the Chief Crown Prosecutor Alison Saunders, for the overall delivery of the prosecution service in London.

Jean said: "I am very proud that my work for the Crown Prosecution Service has been honoured in this way and have always found working for the service immensely satisfying.

"I am also exceptionally proud of staff at every level across the service in London. Their attitude and professionalism in dealing with the challenges the organisation faces is second to none. Londoners can be assured that we are working tirelessly to ensure that the service we deliver is the best it can be."

Jean is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. She joined the West Yorkshire Police Prosecuting Solicitors' Department in 1980 as a shorthand typist.

In 1986 Jean transferred to the CPS in West Yorkshire and held a number of positions before being made Area Business Manager in 2001. She moved to Greater Manchester as Area Business Manager in 2006, with responsibility, along with the Chief Crown Prosecutor, for all business functions which support delivery of effective and efficient prosecution service. She moved to the service in London in 2009.

Jean is 49 years old and is married with two children, ages 20 and 23.
