Richard Otunga convicted of killing wife

Richard Otunga, 38, has today been found guilty murdering his wife Shamin Gabriel on Sunday 29 December 2013 in Northolt. He was convicted at the Central Criminal Court and will be sentenced there on 14 July.

Baljit Ubhey, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, said: "Richard Otunga was physically and mentally abusive to his wife Shamin Gabriel and tragically, just four days after Christmas, the violence escalated. Following an argument he attacked Shamin, stabbing her 32 times in their home.

"In court Otunga callously claimed that his wife was responsible for the attack and he has shown no remorse for this crime. Our case was that he intended to kill her when he attacked her and the jury has today convicted him of the murder.

"We hope his conviction will give some small measure of comfort to Ms Gabriel's family and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"If you suspect anyone in your family or community is a victim of domestic violence we would urge you to report this to the police. We will continue to work closely with our police partners to ensure victims feel confident in coming forward and reporting these types of crimes."
