Operators of west London brothels receive prison sentences after guilty pleas

The operators of a west London brothel who responded to a police raid by opening new premises have received prison sentences.

The imprisonment of Archibold Mensah, 28, yesterday (13 July), at Isleworth Crown Court, was the last of a group who entered guilty pleas for offences relating to the management of brothels and the supply of drugs.

Carl Smith, 55, who claimed to be a bus driver, and his common-law wife, Tasleem Yasin, owned and ran the brothel at 33 Kingsley Road in Hounslow and are estimated to have made more than £400,000 over six years.

They were both sentenced to 27 months’ imprisonment on 14 June at Isleworth Crown Court.

Clare Gill, 36, and Katherine Myles, 34, and later Zoe Fenwick, 31, managed the brother day-to-day as maids. They were given suspended prison sentences at the same hearing.

Mensah, a security man who also supplied cannabis, was imprisoned for eight months after a previous suspended sentence was activated.

After a police raid on 28 June 2016, while on police bail, the defendants reopened the brothel before then moving it to 153 Woodridge Close in Bedfont. Police raided those premises on 16 November 2016.

Raj Clare, CPS reviewing lawyer, said: "Some of the operators of this brothel claimed they did not know that helping to run a brothel was illegal but after being arrested and while on police bail they simply carried on.

"They made significant sums of money, providing instructions to sex workers, arranging rotas and arranging to sell cannabis.

"If you profit from running a brothel, you are breaking the law and will face prosecution."
