New Borough Crown Prosecutor for Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea
21/09/2011
Dolores Barrett has been appointed the new head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in Hammersmith and Fulham and Chelsea and Kensington. She has now started in the role of Borough Crown Prosecutor and takes over from Sharon Grant, who is taking over the same role in Newham.
She was previously a Legal Manager for CPS London Direct (CPSLD) a groundbreaking service that provides telephone charging advice to the police. Dolores helped dramatically improve the performance of CPSLD, which was set up in 2010, and has been a key figure in London improving to become one of the best performers in the country at providing charging advice to the police. At the height of the recent London disorder, the CPS was providing charging advice to the police in less than a minute.
Dolores said: "These are challenging times for CPS London. Like all public sector organisations we are having to operate with a lower budget and unprecedented numbers of cases are now going through the system as a result of the disorder in August. I am determined that the service we provide rises to match the expectations of residents."
Prior to working in CPSLD, Dolores joined the Service as a Prosecutor in London in the early 1990s when she worked in Tolworth. She then moved to central London to become a Youth Specialist to prosecute youth crime across London and has also worked as a Duty Prosecutor providing out of hours charging advice for CPS Direct (the national equivalent of CPSLD). She left CPS Direct to become a BCP at Westminster, the biggest borough in London, dealing with 30,000 cases annually.
Dolores added: "I am delighted with my new appointment and am passionate about working effectively with our partners in the criminal justice system to deliver justice to victims and witnesses of crime across the boroughs."
