Michael Gold sentenced to 24 years for the rape of an 88-year-old woman

Michael Gold, 26, was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment with an extended licence period of eight years at Croydon Crown Court for the rape of an 88-year-old woman in the Bromley area. Gold pleaded guilty to three counts of rape at an earlier hearing on 28 September. The offences were all committed on 16 June 2015.

Sally-Anne Russell, CPS London reviewing lawyer, said: "This was a violent and predatory attack on a vulnerable elderly woman in her own home.

"On 16 June Michal Gold broke into the house of the victim. She initially thought he had broken in to steal and offered him her pension money. He refused this and instead subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault which caused significant injuries.

"This was a truly terrifying ordeal for the victim and has had a massive traumatic impact on her and her family.

"I would like to praise the victim's bravery in reporting her attack and thank her and her family for their support of the prosecution."
