Wlodzimierz Umaniec was sentenced to two years in prison for defacing a painting worth millions of pounds at Inner London Crown Court today.

Gregor McKinley, CPS London Crown Advocate, said: "Criminal damage such as this has wide ranging consequences including the loss to the gallery, the cost of repair to artwork, the cost of reviewing security arrangements and disruption to visitors.
"People should be able to enjoy artwork contained in the city's many galleries and CPS London will robustly prosecute acts of criminal damage."

Umaniec pleaded guilty to a single charge of criminal damage at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court on 16 October 2012.
