CPS London statement on Adam Khan

12/01/2012

20-year-old Adam Khan was today (January 12th) sentenced to four years in a young offender’s institution at Inner London Crown Court for his part in the London disorder in August of this year.

CPS London Crown Advocate Emma Jones said: "During the afternoon of August 8th, 2011, violent incidents in Croydon began to spread quickly, resulting in large scale disorder, burglaries and ransacking of many commercial premises and residential flats. A number of properties were set alight. Violence wasdirected at police attempting to contain and resolve the situation with missiles being thrown and officers injured as a result. Members of the public and local shopkeepers were caught up in the disorder and suffered significant upset and financial loss.

"Khan was one of the ringleaders and the court was shown CCTV footage of his actions, which were among the most serious that CPS London has seen aspart of the London disorder. He threw missiles towards police officers, caused significant criminal damage and carried out a significant number of opportunistic robberies and burglaries during his rampage and today he learnt he will pay a heavy price for participating in the unacceptable violence in Croydon that day."
