Fifteen people sentenced for their part in the first incidents of violent disorder in summer 2011

04/01/2013

The last of 15 people who took part in the first incidents of violent disorder in the disorder of summer 2011 was sentenced today.

The 15 offenders have now been sentenced for burglary, robbery and violent disorder offences committed in Tottenham High Road on 6 and 7 August 2011.

Alison Saunders, CPS London Chief Crown Prosecutor, said: "This group of men and youths were among the first people involved in violence to property and people in August 2011, which later spread nationwide. This violent behaviour began after a demonstration in Tottenham. Following the demonstration the group went on a rampage in a number of shops, one of which was completely destroyed by fire as a result of the disorder, and were involved in serious violence towards police officers.
"Their behaviour caused damage and loss to local businesses and terrified members of the public. CPS London continues to work with its partners to ensure that those involved in the disorder are forced to face the consequences of their actions in court."

Christian Bangisa pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary at Wood Green Crown Court on 6 December 2012 and was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment in court today.
