CPS authorises charge for Ladbrokes killing

Gary Dolby, from CPS London Homicide Unit, said: " The Crown Prosecution Service has this afternoon (31st May) authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge Shafique Ahmad Aarij, 21, with the murder of Andrew Iacovou, who was fatally attacked on Saturday, May 25 at Ladbrokes betting shop in Aberconway Road, Morden where he worked.

"I have carefully considered the available evidence and decided that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that it is in the public interest to charge Mr Ahmad with the murder of Mr Iacovou. This decision was made in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.

"He will appear before Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court on 1 June.

"Mr Ahmad now stands charged with a criminal offence and has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that nothing should be reported which could prejudice this trial."
