Childminder found guilty of manslaughter of 10-month-old boy

A childminder has been found guilty today [1 June] at the Central Criminal Court of the manslaughter of a 10-month-old child in her care.

Viktoria Tautz, 34, was looking after Joshua Paul on 29 August 2014 at his parents' home in Haringey, as she had been doing for two months.

A neighbour heard cries for help and discovered Tautz with the unconscious child. The emergency services were called and arrived at 09.11am.

Having being taken to A&E and then Great Ormond Street Hospital, Joshua Paul died at 10.55pm on 1 September.

Robert Davis, London CPS reviewing lawyer, said: "This was an upsetting case involving a child's death. Joshua Paul was killed by his childminder who had been entrusted with his care.

"Despite her defence she did not shake the child, the expert medical reports demonstrated that the injuries could only have been caused by an assault. The only person who could have assaulted Joshua Paul was Ms Tautz.

"Our thoughts are very much with the family, and we hope this conviction brings some sense of comfort at this difficult time."
