Chief Crown Prosecutor welcomes rape review

09/06/2014

An independent review of London rape cases was launched today by Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders and Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe.

Baljit Ubhey, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, said: "I welcome this review which will focus on improving how the CPS and police handle rape cases to enable us to provide a better service to victims of this abhorrent crime.

"It is crucial that rape victims have confidence in the criminal justice system and I want Londoners to be sure of our commitment to bring perpetrators to justice.

"London presents unique challenges to both police and prosecutors when responding to any crime, especially rape cases which can be incredibly complex by their very nature.

"The aim of the review is to seek an unbiased assessment of our response in London to ensure that it is as effective as it can be."
