Move to tackle violent crime in South London

CPS London and Metropolitan Police chiefs have launched an initiative aimed at tackling violent criminals in South London.

Centred on the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, it will speed up cases involving people suspected of gun and associated crimes of violence.

Such cases will be dealt with by a team of dedicated CPS London lawyers and caseworkers.

The arrangements are set out in a joint protocol, believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.

The protocol signing ceremonyAdopted in May, the protocol was signed by Shuba Karan, District Crown Prosecutor, South Central London Prosecution Service, pictured second right, at a ceremony at Brixton Police Station.
