The area covers many different localities and communities, each with their own individual characteristics. This includes inner city Nottingham, former mining communities, and some rural areas. The city of Nottingham includes some of the most deprived local council wards in the East Midlands.

The Nottinghamshire district, which comprises a Magistrates Court team and a Crown Court team, prosecutes approximately 36,000 cases a year.

The Nottingham office is also the base for the Chief Crown Prosecutor and Area Business Manager; the Area Operations Centre, which deals with many of the administrative functions for CPS East Midlands, and the East Midlands Complex Casework Unit.

The Nottinghamshire district is part of the CPS East Midlands north sector.
