Your Local CPS
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) was set up in 1986 to prosecute criminal cases investigated by the police in England and Wales. It is a national organisation divided into 13 Areas, of which CPS East Midlands is one.
CPS East Midlands employs more than 500 staff in bases across five different counties in the Area:
CPS East Midlands is divided into two sectors, north and south. Each sector consists of different districts, led by senior district crown prosecutors and teams, led by district crown prosecutors.
Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are in the north sector. Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire are districts, containing Magistrates' Court and Crown Court teams. A single team covers the whole of Lincolnshire.
Leicestershire and Northamptonshire are part of the south sector, as a single district. This consists of Magistrates Court and Crown Court teams in Leicestershire and a single team for Northamptonshire. The south sector also includes the crown advocates team and the charging team.
The teams prosecute cases in their local courts. Some cases are prosecuted by specialist teams and many of our administrative functions are managed centrally by our Area Operations Centre, based in Nottingham.
