Violence against women

CPS East Midlands has developed a strategy for prosecuting crimes of violence against women. The strategy aims to improve the number of successful prosecutions of a range of crimes where women and children are the victims, usually within the context of power and control.

The challenges in prosecuting these offences are that in the main they take place in private, away from witnesses. Many victims do not want to give evidence in court.

There are many ways in which we can help victims of these crimes in the East Midlands. We also work closely with other agencies and support providers, such as local sexual assault referral centres, independent domestic violence advisors and independent sexual violence advisors.
