Two charged over the death of Charlie Dunn

22/06/2017

CPS East Midlands has authorised Leicestershire Police to charge two people in relation to the death of five-year-old Charlie Dunn in a leisure park in Leicestershire.

Andrew Baxter from the CPS said: "In November 2016, the Crown Prosecution Service received a file of evidence from Leicestershire Police relating to Charlie's death and have subsequently received evidence relating to child neglect and other offences.

"Following a review of the evidence, the CPS has authorised the police to charge Lynsey Dunn and Paul Smith with manslaughter and seven counts of child neglect. Paul Smith has also been charged with two counts of witness intimidation and six separate motoring offences.

"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Ms Dunn and Mr Smith are now active and that they have a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."
