Northampton man charged with murder

The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised police in the East Midlands to charge Otis Goldsmith with murder, following a death in a house in Northampton.

Senior prosecutors from CPS East Midlands and the 24/7 charging service, CPS Direct have examined evidence presented by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit and have determined that, in line with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest for a prosecution to take place.

Mr Goldsmith was charged overnight and appeared at Corby Magistrates Court this morning.

Criminal proceedings have now commenced and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
