A Lincoln man who groomed and sexually abused a nine-year-old girl has been sentenced to 26 years behind bars.

John McPherson was convicted after trial at Lincoln Crown Court of ten counts of sexual assault of a child, one count of taking indecent photographs of a child, one count of causing or inciting a child to watch a sexual act and one count of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity between July and October 2015.

CPS East Midlands Head of Serious Sexual Offences Unit, Lawrence English, said: "This was a truly horrifying case. McPherson's actions towards this blameless child were depraved and sickening.

"In contrast, the girl he abused has shown immense courage and bravery during the prosecution process. We cannot change what happened to her. We did what we could do, which was prosecuting this case to the best of our ability to secure some measure of justice for her."
