Joseph Moran charged with murder of Fred Sluggett

The Crown Prosecution Service has today (Monday, December 22) authorised Leicestershire Police to charge Joseph Moran with the murder of Fred Sluggett.

Mr Sluggett was assaulted in 2009 and died earlier this year.

Evidence presented to the East Midlands Complex Casework Unit and a senior crown prosecutor has determined that, in line with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of a conviction and it is in the public interest for a prosecution to proceed.

Joseph Moran was charged earlier this morning.

Criminal proceedings have now commenced and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
